Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

Launch rockets with a fizzy chemical reaction using baking soda and vinegar!

Resources

- Film canisters or small plastic bottles with lids
- Baking soda
- Vinegar
- Food colouring (optional)
- Paper towels for spills and cleaning

Instructions

1. Gather materials: film canisters or small plastic bottles with lids, baking soda, vinegar, food colouring (optional), and paper towels.
2. Fill your canister or bottle halfway with vinegar.
3. In a separate piece of paper or smaller container, add one tablespoon of baking soda and a few drops of food colouring, if desired.
4. Quickly place the baking soda package inside the vinegar-filled container and secure the lid tightly.
5. Step back and watch as the chemical reaction builds pressure and launches the rocket!
6. Discuss the science behind the reaction: the acid (vinegar) and the base (baking soda) create carbon dioxide gas, building pressure until the lid pops off!
