Description

This activity involves using toothbrushes to flick coloured paints onto black card to create a starry night or galaxy effect.

Resources

Black Card
Toothbrushes
Paper plates (palette)
Old clothes/ apron
Paint
Newspaper, or something to cover surfaces
Water pot
Paper towels

Instructions

1. Prepare work space
- Cover the table and floor (if inside) with newspaper or a plastic sheet
2. Set up the paint
- Pour a small amount of paint onto a paper plate (1 plate per colour)
3. Brief young people about safety (not to flick paint towards people) and the technique to use.
4. Flick the stars
- Load a toothbrush with paint, and flick it gently across the card.
- Vary the distance and angle to get different spatter sizes
5. Let it dry
- Lay the painting flat and allow it to dry completely
