Description
A simple game to learn compass directions and walking on a bearing, with wrapped chocolate treats to encourage enthusiasm,.
Equipment per team teams of 2 or 3 best) - a compass, a place marker, paper and pens
Each team sets a route or another team. Each team starts their route at a different point, marked with a beanbag, backpack, or other marker. The routes should only cover a 20 pace (ish) area max.
From their starting point, teams work out a set of bearings and distances, leading to the 'treasure'. The chocolate is the treasure and should be hidden/buried at the end point.
After 20 mins or so, teams SWAP with another team and try to find their chocolate.
Exercise #1: Simple (Cardinal Points Only) example -
Walk 5 paces to the North.
Walk 10 paces to the West.
Walk 20 paces to the South
Walk 15 paces to the East
Walk 15 paces to the North
Walk 5 paces to the West.
Exercise #2: More Advanced (Using Bearings) example -
Take a bearing of 90 degrees.
Walk 20 paces in that direction.
Take a bearing of 225 degrees.
Walk 28 paces in that direction.
Take a bearing of 315 degrees.
Walk 28 paces in that direction.
Take a bearing of 45 degrees.
Walk 28 paces in that direction.
Take a bearing of 180 degrees.
Walk 20 paces in that direction.
