Complete Level 1 of the Navigator Badge at Camp

Resources

OS map (pref 1:25,000) covering where your campsite is
Sheets of A4 paper, pens and something to write on
Equipment for a short walk

Instructions

1) Looking at the OS Map and find your campsite on it.
2) Scouts to look for features of the campsite and any other landmarks visible from the camp site and then find on the map.
3) Draw the Compass points, and get Scouts to orientate the map to North using the local features.
4) Scouts draw a map of their campsite, including tents, dining areas, washing, waste and activity areas.
5-6) Mark up a a short route on the OS Map (<2km) and agree equipment Scouts and Leaders need to take to complete it safely.
5) Walk the route with Leader, using the map to navigate.
