The Task
Your group has an inflated ball that for safety reasons may not be touched by any part of a human body. Your task is to get the ball across the river without getting it wet. If it becomes wet, it will ‘explode’! The ball may not be thrown or kicked. You may have as many people on each side of the river as you like. The only equipment you may use is a long rope.

- inflated beach ball, 40-50cm (16-20 inches) diameter.
- long rope over twice as long as the river is wide.
- rope for marking the sides of the river.

Mark out the river.

The solution to this problem involves doubling the rope so that it stretches across the river, and so that the rope sections are parallel to and about 15cm (6 inches) apart from one another (like a set of
train tracks). Provide tension at both ends. Elevate the starting end and roll the ball down the parallel tracks.
