Part of BBs Young Minds Programme Resources
Prepare for a thrilling battle of bases, where quick feet and clever tactics could earn your team the ultimate treasure!
Resources
•Cones or tape to mark two team bases
•Coloured flags, beanbags, or scarves (equal mix of red, blue, green, with one yellow item)
Instructions
1.Create two team ‘bases’. These could be out of cones, using hoops or marking on the floor with tape or chalk. If playing with a larger group, consider having more bases.
2.You’ll need some coloured items (i.e. beanbags, flags, felt sheet etc). Make sure to have 2 or 3 different colours. Evenly distribute these items between the bases.
3.You’ll need one item that is yellow. This item should start in the middle of the playing area.
4.Split the group into two teams and nominate each team one of the bases. This is where they start the game.
5.Explain to the group, that the different coloured items are worth different points, so they may want to strategise how they play this game, based on the points available (see scoring system below).
6.On GO, teams must sneak, run and strategise to steal the items from the other base and return them safely to their own. They will also want to try and be the first team to grab the yellow item in the middle of the field, as this is worth the most points.
7.Children are able to defend their bases. To do this then can tag attacking players. If tagged, that player must freeze on the spot. If they are holding an item, they must drop it where they are.
8.Teammates are able to ‘rescue’ frozen players, by tagging them.
9.Continue playing the game, with items being stolen backwards and forwards. After a set period of time (i.e. 5 minutes), call time. Count up the items and use the scoring system below to find out which team have won.
Flag Points:
Yellow = 10 points
Red = 5 points
Blue = 3 points
Green = 1 point
