Postal Worker (Wide Game)
Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK
Description
Royal mail themed wide game, best played on a common or in a field with woodland/terrain variation/places to hide.
Story: Royal Mail is experiencing a spike in demand over this seasonal period (Christmas or Easter or some other relevant holiday). The explorers have been recruited to help alleviate this. Their job is to post as many letters as possible within their teams, whilst avoiding highwaymen who seek to rob them.
How it works:
A postbox is established in a central location. Leaders are given a resource (letters, stamps or signatures) that they can distribute, but they must be hard to find, constantly roaming around the area.
Explorers are split into teams. Each team must find a letter, get it stamped and signed before posting it in the postbox. Team with most letters posted wins.
1 team will be highwaymen. If they catch the posties they can steal their letters. If they steal more letters than are posted, they win.
Resources
- A collection of "letters". These can be post-it notes, or cards or anything. 50-100 letters will do
- Multi-coloured "stamps" (stickers), one colour for each team
- A cardboard box (postbox)
- 2-4 leaders.
- If done with 2 leaders have the letter distributor guard the postbox, but move around in a 100m radius of it. Have the stamp distributor go further afield
- If done with 3 leaders, have one guard, one letter distributor and a stamp distributor
- If done with 4 leaders, have a goard, letter and stamp distributor and also someone who must sign each letter before it's posted, just to add some complexity
- A pen (to sign letters if 4 leaders present)
Instructions
One leader is the postmaster and guards the postbox. Another leader is the letter distributor (can be guarding the postbox as well if short on leaders), another is the stamp distributor. If you have another leader, they can be the mail signer.
Leaders split up and roam/hide around the area, moving frequently. Works well in the dark.
Explorers are split into teams. They must find the letter distributor and get 1 letter from them. They must then find the stamp distributor to get the letter stamped. If you have a "mail signer" then they must also find that leader who will scribble something on the letter to make it valid.
All of this must be done before the letter can be posted. The team must then get back to the postbox and post the letter before starting the cycle again.
You can do different coloured stickers for each team, or just have the "mail signer" write the team name on the letter.
One team of explorers will be designated as highwaymen. They can chase and catch the postal teams. If they catch them they confiscate the letters, and this counts against that team's score.
At the end you open the postbox and the most letters attributed to one team wins.
