Description

Attempt to recite the Scout Promise in Scots. Extra points for a proper Scottish accent! Adapted from the Scots Language Centre official translation of the Girl Guide promise.

Resources

"On ma honour, Ah hecht that Ah maun da ma best tae dae ma duty tae God an tae the King, tae help ither folk an tae haud the Scout Law."

Instructions

Project the words up for the Scouts to read through, reflect on which words are familiar, and which are different (they should try to work out the meanings) and explain the Gaelic origins of Scots dialect. Then a leader (ideally one who has had some time to practice, but funnier if not) should lead the Section in the promise. Neckers and shirts on of course!
