Take a look at how inventions are created for a reason, and even more importantly, how God – the greatest inventor – carefully designed each of us with unique gifts, abilities, and purpose.

An Unsual Object (i.e. a garlic press, avocado slicer, jar opener, cherry pitter)

A leader will need to source an ‘unusual item’ for this activity. Some suggestions are included within the activity notes.

Instructions

1 - Hold up your unusual object (i.e. a garlic press, avocado slicer, jar opener, cherry pitter) and ask the group if they know what it is and what it was invented for? Let the children guess. Encourage fun and silly answers. Then explain its real purpose. If possible, demonstrate it in action.

2 - Explain that someone invented this tool on purpose. Even if we don’t recognise or understand it, the inventor knew exactly why they made it.

3 - Sometimes we might not feel useful, understood or wonderful. Maybe we compare ourselves to others or think we’re not good at anything. But just like this tool, even when we didn’t know what it was for, its inventor did.

4 - God was the greatest inventor of them all. He was the one who designed each of us! He designed every tiny part of you. From your brain, to your abilities and your personality… and none of it was an accident. God knows exactly why he made you.

5 - In the Bible it says that “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14)

6 - God didn’t make mistakes or copies. Your kindness, your humour, your ideas, your energy. All the things that make you, you, God put them there on purpose. How incredible is that!

7 - So next time you feel ordinary or unsure, remember: God is the greatest inventor, and you are his incredible invention. Designed carefully. Designed wonderfully. Designed on purpose!


Prayer

God, thank you that you are the greatest inventor of all. Thank you for making each of us wonderfully and on purpose. Help us to remember that you designed us with gifts, talents, and a special purpose. Show us how we can use what you’ve given us to help others and honour you. Amen.
