Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

This activity aims to raise awareness of the idea of unequal distribution of wealth around the world and in our communities.

Resources

Table
Pencils
Paper
Small food items

Instructions

1. Randomly split the Unit into two groups.
2. One group should have twice as many players as the other.
3. The group with less girls represents those with more resources and should be given a pencil and paper each, chairs, and be allowed to stand close to the table.
4. The larger group should only be given one pencil and paper for the whole group and be made to stand further away from the table than the smaller group.
5. Place 10 - 15 small items of food on the table.
6. Give the players two minutes to try and memorise them all.
7. The objects are then covered, and the players must write down as many items as they can remember.
8. After the game, discuss how the two groups felt being treated differently.

Questions to ask the girls after they have completed the activity:
a) Was it fair to do it this way?
b) Can they think of examples when life is like this in their community or other communities?
c) What could we do to make it more fair?
