Description
To explore the Scout Promise and Laws through a fun, interactive roleplay game where young people learn by making decisions.
D&D is a collaborative storytelling game where players create characters and go on an adventure guided by a facilitator (often called the “Dungeon Master”).
Players describe what they want to do, and simple dice rolls help decide what happens — but the focus is on teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving, not winning.
Young people take on characters and work together to relight a magical artefact — the Ember Compass — which only works when they act according to Scout values.
They complete three short challenges:
Broken Bridge – Help stranded travellers or take an easier selfish option
Forest of Voices – Resolve a conflict between two groups through listening and respect
Cave of Shadows – Face self-doubt and choose between doing what’s easy or what’s right
The leader guides the story, plays characters, and encourages participation — no D&D experience needed. Focus on keeping it fun, fast-paced, and reflective. Some fast-thinking might be needed as their decisions might surprise you!
