Investiture of Scout
This is a special ceremony where Scouts make their promise, receive their necker, receive their badges and become part of the scouting family.

- Badges for each new Scout (World Membership, Group name Tape, District, County, and if required Recognition Badge, Necker Badge, Patrol Badge/Woggle)

Instructions

Patrol Leaders to prepare new Scouts for their Investiture. Full Uniform, The badges are presented after the Promise has been made, and the new scout is formally welcomed into the Troop.

1. Prepare the area with a designated space for the ceremony. Ensure the flag is set up and held by a leader.

2. Scouts should stand in a semi-circle, spaced arm length apart.

3. The leader explains what Investiture is and its significance.

4. The patrol leader may want to bring each Scout forward one at a time. The PL says, “This is [Scout’s name], they want to be invested.” and then they take one step backwards.

5. The person leading the Investiture should ask the new Scout if they understand what’s meant by ‘honour’ and if they understand the importance of the Promise and Law. If they say ‘yes’, they should make the Scout sign with their right hands. Anyone else who’s made their Promise should make the Scout sign also.

6. The new Scout should repeat the Promise after the person leading the Investiture.
It’s up to the new Scout how they do this. Often, person leading the Investiture says a line, and the new Scout repeats it make it a bit less daunting.

7. Once the new Scout’s made their Promise, everyone should stop making the Scout Sign.

8. The leader shakes the Scouts left hand and say, “Welcome to the worldwide family of scouting.”

9. The person leading the ceremony should present the new Scout with their necker, badges, and certificate (if applicable).

10. The person leading the ceremony should salute the new Scout and the new Scout should return the salute.

11. The new Scout should turn to face their Troop and salute. The Troop should return the salute.

12. The new Scout should now return to where they were standing before the Investiture. If a Patrol Leader came forward with them, they should go back to their place too.
