Animals in War memorial - Remembrance Day

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

This activity is perfect for Beavers because it highlights huge losses of animals instead of people, but it can also include stories of great bravery, hardship and suffering.

Resources

Information taken from the www.animalsinwar.org.uk website.

Instructions

Ask Beavers to name animals that were used in the World Wars. The list actually includes horses, donkeys, dogs, pigeons, elephants, camels, oxen, bullocks, cats, canaries, even glow worms! Some of the Beavers will probably have seen (or read) War Horse and this is a good place to start discussions. The website also includes stories of animals that have won the Dickin Medal - my Beavers were particularly keen on GI Joe the carrier pigeon!
