make a simple kite to fly outdoors

Clear sticky tape
Paper Craft Straws
Stick or cardboard tube
Greaseproof paper

- Make a cross from two large craft straws (one cut slightly smaller than the other) joining them with sticky tape
- Cut a traditional kite shape from greaseproof paper to fit your kite ‘skeleton’ and tape it to the frame
- Attach some thin string to the centre of the cross
- Wind the free end of the string onto a cardboard tube or a small stick
- Try outside

Explain to your Cub Scouts before you begin that these are really ‘one off’ kites that are unlikely to last! They can be used as templates for bigger and bolder versions that they can try using plastic or fabric and garden canes
