Description

Beavers have to find hidden Easter Eggs from around a campsite

Resources

Something to collect eggs in

Instructions

Hide 'eggs' around the campsite in place not too obvious but not so hidden that they wont be able to find them

Alternate instructions:

Buy the plastic Easter egg contains and large pack of individually wrapped foil eggs. For a group of 24 beavers I’d recommend 70 plastic egg shells and 100-200 chocolate eggs. Designate an area of a park or similar as the zone you will run your Easter egg hunt in. Before the young people arrive, leaders should do a sweep for dog poo and other hazards in line with the risk assessment.

Prepare for the activity by filling the egg cases with one chocolate egg each, remembering to have a stock of extra chocolate set aside which may be handy later on. Divide the beavers into two equal groups. Tell one they will be the hiders first and the other the seekers and then we will swap around. Say that the seekers will go around the corner with other leaders and count to 100 with their leaders. Meanwhile, the seekers will hide 3 eggs each in the designated zone, making some eggs easy to find and some tricky. When the leader is satisfied that 100 has been counted to appropriately they’ll let the seekers loose. They can find a maximum of 3 eggs and eat the chocolate inside. After a minute the seekers can help any finders who are struggling to find eggs. When no more can be found give extra chocolate to any Beavers who are seekers and couldn’t find 3. Then repeat with the group swapped.

Afterwards, move the Beavers to a new activity, count the egg shells to determine how many were lost and seek out the remaining eggs yourself to avoid leaving behind rubbish.
