Description
An introduction to compasses and compass points taken from Programes in a box
Resources
Compasses, copies of printouts below, pencils, chalk (indoor) or Tent pegs and string (outdoor)
Instructions
Cut out and place the nine letter cards on the floor equal distance from each other and as far apart as the hall allows. This can be done outside in good weather! Fix with tape. The letters must be correctly aligned as shown, even if this does not suit the orientation of the hall!

These need to be placed in location in a North/South direction or there is little point to the game (for clarity see download)
Give each group a mini-orienteering sheet and a pencil/marker. Mark a different start number for each group. Ask them to try to complete the words and then move onto the next question.
Explain that if they get stuck or confused, they need to return to the last point and try again. (In download files)
