Weather permitting, light (Leaders only) and fly paper lanterns. Teaches about hot air expansion, and about 1st ever manned flight.

Blow Planes - A4 Card, Cellotape, Bluetac, Scissors, Drinking Straws

Instructions

Light paper lanterns well away from habitation, be aware of the weather conditions, the slightest breeze and these lanterns don't launch easily, plus there are more chances for things to go wrong.

Demonstrate how to make the "Blow Planes",
Give out sheets and equipment (Retain straws to prevent tom foolery)
Cubs to construct planes and decorate.
Leaders to fly planes in the competition on longest flight and greatest distance.
Cubs to fly planes themselves to see if they can better leaders.
