Description
Hold a Bring & Buy Sale in aid of a charity
Resources
Unwanted items brought in by members. Refreshments - tea, coffee, milk, sugar, juice & biscuits. Lots of small change to provide floats for each stall. Sticky labels to price cakes & larger toys.
Instructions
Send out info to parents 2/3 weeks before. Beavers/Scouts asked to bring in unwanted toys, books, games etc. Parents asked to make cakes & donate 'white elephant' items etc. Anything we can sell for 2p - 50p. First 30 mins of meeting the Beavers/Scouts sort the items and set out on various stalls. Then declare sale open - for the next 30 mins Beavers/Scouts serve behind stalls (with adult help) and are allowed to buy as well! To encourage parents & families to stay we sell refreshments for the whole hour (not worth them leaving and coming back in 30 mins!)
Our colony does this once a year for Christian Aid and we are included in the village Christian Aid diary so a few members of the public visit the sale. We usually raise £65 - £85 in half an hour! As our sale is a joint effort with 2 colonies it covers 2 aspects of the Friendship Challenge.
Can expand this programme by making cakes, biscuits, sweets, gingerbread people or pot pourri sachets at the previous meeting (anything that will keep for a week) and include these items in the sale. Can also make posters to advertise the sale.
