Description
Investigating and illustrating what is in everyday food
Resources
Scales
Fat / lard / butter
Sugar
Greaseproof paper
Sandwich bags
Calculator
A selection of everyday foods eg sausages, crisps, pizza, chocolate, oven chips.
Instructions
Read the contents / ingredients label to find grams of fat and sugar per hundred grams and then calculate how much sugar / fat is in the food (eg 5 g per 100g, total weight = 340, then total weight of fat / sugar is 5 x 3.4 = 17g)
Measure this out using the scale then bag / put on greaseproof on a table along with the food it comes from.
It's quite scary what the content of some everyday foods is when you see it separated out!
