Description

Follow bearings for certain distances, putting pegs in the ground at changes of direction, leaving a trail of string to write letters on the ground.

Instructions

Beforehand make up sets of instructions for each group to spell out letter, similar to below. We're spelling "14" as we're 14th Southampton (and there aren't any curves - perfect!).

Instructions for scouts:

Group 1:

Place a peg in the ground and tie one end of the string to it.
Walk for 4 metres on a bearing of 17 degrees, trailing the string behind you.
Place a peg in the ground, pull the string tight, and wrap the string round the peg.
Walk for 12 metres on a bearing of 150 degrees, trailing the string behind you.
Place a peg in the ground, pull the string tight, and wrap the string round the peg.
Walk for 2 metres on a bearing of 236 degrees, trailing the string behind you.
Place a peg in the ground, pull the string tight, and wrap the string round the peg.
Walk for 4 metres on a bearing of 56, trailing the string behind you.
Place a peg in the ground, pull the string tight, and wrap the string round the peg.

Walk for 5 metres on a bearing of 55, trailing the string behind you.
Place a peg in the ground, pull the string tight, and wrap the string round the peg.
