Capture the flag

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK View in OSM NZ

Capture the flag is a traditional outdoor game where two teams each have a flag (or other marker) and the object is to capture the other teams flag, located at the teams base, and bring it safely back to their own base. Enemy players can be tagged by players in their home territory and are sent to jail until freed by a member of their own team

Four football cones (to mark the playing field), two football cones or beanbags for capturing, 5/6 football marker saucers to create a line in between the two camps

1. Mark out a playing field using four football cones and explain the boundaries of the playing field to the Beavers. A boundary line between the two camps also needs to be marked out using 5/6 football marker saucers. The location of each teams jail also needs to be decided before the game starts
2. Split the group into two equal teams, each team having a small plastic football cone at the teams base
3. The object of the game is to run into the other teams territory, capture their cone and make it safely back to your own territory with the enemy cone
4. You can tag enemy players in your territory, sending them to your jail
5. They can be sprung from jail by a member of their own team running into your territory, tagging them and running back, with one freed person allowed per jail break
6. It is sometimes played that all the people in jail could hold hands and make a chain back toward their own territory, making it easier for members of their team to tag them. But a player who is released from jail must go back to their own territory first before they are allowed to try and capture the enemy cone
7. You can also add additional cones for capturing into the game if you like
8. The first team to capture the enemy cone wins
