Description

Winter Wildlife Discovery: November - March

This is a wild evening looking at what happens to our wildlife in winter. Help our dopy Dormice to hibernate with a mini shelter building experiment, play fun migration games to learn about what our birds do in the winter.

Resources

Children use plastic test tubes dressed like dormice then use leaves and twigs to build a den for them. Each dormice then gets warm water poured in. The temperature is recorded before a 15 minute hibernation, then recorded again when the dormice are taken out.

Instructions

Children explain why/how some animals hibernate and how they keep warm, they can then dress up using scarves, old coats, and gloves to keep warm inside.
