Food Colouring Flowers

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

An experiment to show how plants absorb water.

Resources

One flower (pale flowers work better), celery stick or cabbage leaf per Cub.
Plastic cup per Cub
Water
Different coloured food colourings

Instructions

Half fill a plastic cup with water. Ask Cub to choose a colour and add approx 6 drops to the water. Cut flower stems so they are not too long and make the cup tip then add the flower or celery, cabbage leaf to the cup.

Ask Cubs what they think will happen to the flower. After an hour get the Cubs to check their flowers, what observations have they made and why do they think this has happened. Ask them to take them home and check them again in the morning, were there any differences. Discuss their findings at the next meeting.
