Set of different bases for exploring Japanese culture using ideas from 'Japan in a Box' added to POL in support of the World Jamboree in summer 2015
Resources
BASE 1: Paper for origami and origami instructions for origami base
BASE 2: Plenty of sushi, noodles (ramen), onigiri (rice balls), chopsticks for food tasting base. Bowl and water to clean chopsticks. Bin/bin bag for rejected food. Maybe some water for Scouts/Cubs to drink
BASE 3: Japanese character examples, paper, pens for Japanese writing base
BASE 4: 3 sets of 5 beanbags for otedama: beanbag game.
Instructions
split Scouts/Cubs into 4 groups.
Set up one base in each corner of the room with an adult in charge
Scouts to move round bases spending approx 15 minutes at each (whistle blown to move on)
Scouts/Cubs try out activities at each base:
BASE 1: Make origami object - look up instructions online or use origami books. http://www.activityvillage.co.uk/origami
BASE 2: Taste different Japanese foods at food base - picking them up with chopsticks
