Instructions
Introduction:
This activity will get the Guides familiar with how to conduct research via the internet and library and also familiar with giving a presentation.
Instructions:
The aim of this Challenge is for Guides to educate themselves with historic facts about the town/village/area where they live. Once they have done this they will need to hold a presentation in front of the Unit with their findings.
In Patrols or groups the Guides should gather information from whatever source they choose, be it the local library, the internet or books at home.
They could also talk to people locally to ask if they know or can point them in the right direction for information. The Guides should note their findings on paper ready for the presentation.
The Guides in their Patrol or group should present their findings to the Unit. They can be creative and present a scene from the locality’s past or present the findings of their research.
Discussion:
Talk to the Guides to see how easily available the information was. Did they choose the local library over the internet?
Discuss why they made their choice.
Did the Guides discover anything they didn’t already know about their locality?
