Children to work in pairs or individually, Draw an outline of the area (I drew on the roads) go for a 'guided' walk around the local area stopping periodically to allow the children time to draw on their symbols. remind them they should be something quick to refer to and simple.
Return to meeting place and write a key of what their symbols were on their map. Celebrate differences, there is no wrong symbol.
