Extension:
A piece of music can be played and ask the young people to identify the instruments being played. A CD of ‘Peter and the Wolf’ by Prokofiev would be a good one to start with. The story of ‘Peter and the Wolf’ is narrated and the different sounds of the instruments play the parts of the animals, ie. the cat is a clarinet, the duck is an oboe, the wolf is a French horn, etc. This activity could be done over two or three weeks.
As an additional part you could bring in some musical instruments and ask the young people to try them. You could ask them to identify which instrument represents : The sun rising (Cymbals) A Snake (Tambourine).
