Show How Hot Air Rises

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

Show how hot hair rises using paper snakes and a heat source. Activity covers one element of section 2 of the Scientist badge.

Resources

Printouts, see attached file, colouring pens/pencils, scissors, thread or similar, adhesive tape, heat source eg toaster, tea light.

Instructions

Each Cub chooses a template to colour in, once coloured they cut out the snake and also cut around the spiral. The last stage is to secure a length of thread to the end of the snake's tail with tape. Cubs hold on to the thread and suspend the snake over the heat source. Holding the thread allows the snake to spin freely and demonstrate how hot air rises. Special care should be taken to ensure the snake does not come into direct contact with the heat source.
