Instructions

After carrying out your girl consultation that leads to patrols deciding on which patrol activities they would like to do, provide them with a framework (examples attached) for the patrol to organise and record how they will use their time over the term. It is a good idea if time allows for girls to choose five activities, this allows for if a girl is away one meeting.

Supporting your girls with a planning document allows girls to understand and organise the steps they need to take in order for an activity to happen e.g. knowing how much time, what resources will they need - thinking about what will need to be purchased, what might need to be sourced/saved over time, what is already available in their Guide unit resources, will they need to find further instructions, will they need an adult to help, etc.

The patrol planning document can then be copied so both leaders and girls have a copy

If you have a planning document you have developed/use with your girls, add it to this activity to share with others and build this resource for leaders

Following planning have a meeting with your Patrol Leaders

Patrol leaders meeting - either the same day as planning time or at the beginning of your following meeting while the rest of the girls are playing a game
This is an opportunity for you to talk about your expectations if you haven’t already. The main purpose is to:
o Compare patrol activities and help schedule them to fit into the programme timing for this term
o If more than one patrol has chosen the same activity, then it would make sense to do them on the same night
o If they have chosen some longer activities that are not easily going to fit, compromise may need to be made
o At least five activities for each patrol needs to be scheduled into the programme if possible - this allows for when girls miss a meeting/activity
