Activity 4
Vaccination
Introduction
• Discuss how children are given vaccinations at various stages in their lives to promote health e.g. MMR (Measles, Mumps & Rubella)
• Ask the SB if they know which vaccinations they have gotten
• Have their heard about jabs needed before they can travel to faraway places
Instructions
• SB to research the various immunisation programmes in Ireland and internationally
• Discuss these and compare them to each other as well as linking them into other issues
• Such as poverty and the availability of the immunisations
• Discuss the HPV vaccine – have the girls all gotten it? Why/Why not? It was their parents’ decision – do they feel they should have gotten a say etc
Debrief/Discussion
Research children’s health internationally
Prepare an awareness/information poster on the types of diseases and illnesses that affect children and that can be eliminated by vaccination
Print and post locally at your units and perhaps in your schools or colleges or places of work.
