Knots- reef and clove hitch
Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK
Description
Learn at least two knots and then use them.
Resources
Rope- ~1m length for each cub
Instructions
First find out who knows the reef and clove hitch- ideally tying the clove hitch direct rather than just the 'two loop' method. Get them to demonstrate to confirm they can do it. If nobody can, teach the sixers while everyone else plays a quick game. Then those that know teach those that don't. When there's people still learning but most know it and are getting bored, give those that know the basics some more challenging knots to work on, again teaching each other. Don't leave one or two cubs struggling if they're clearly not going to manage it- some take more time than others to develop the dexterity and concentration needed.
When all of them know the knots- or at least all those you think are going to get it this session- the challenge to make use of them is place a chair at one end of the room, tie a rope between the two front legs using clove hitches, tie another rope to the middle of that using another clove hitch, then tie the rest of the ropes together and to the end of it using reef knots. Then one cub sits on the chair and the others have to pull the chair the length of the hut from as far away as the rope allows.
