Description
Ringo is a team game, similar to basketball, but played with a quoit instead of a ball.
Resources
Rubber quoit, two sticks (like walking sticks, hockey sticks etc. to use as "goals"), two chairs (or similar) for ringcatchers to stand on, a whistle. It may be useful to have coloured bibs or bands to distinguish teams.
Instructions
Set out the playing area (about the size of a badminton court is fine), and position a chair or box at either end. If possible, mark the centre line (between the two halves), and a "D", or "box" around the chair that is wider than the ringcatcher can reach with his stick
Divide the group into two teams - use coloured bibs to distinguish from one another.
Teams will be positioned at opposite ends of the playing area.
Each team picks a ringcatcher, who takes a stick and stands on the chair or box at the opposite end of the playing area from their team (teams are shooting towards their own ringcatcher).
The aim of the game is to score a catch - by throwing the ring such that the ringcatcher can catch it on the stick.
1. Players cannot move while holding the ring - the ring should be passed to other players, or "dribbled" (thrown in the air and caught).
2. Players cannot "snatch" the ring from another player while he is holding it, but can intercept passes.
3. If the ring falls on the floor, it may be picked up by any player nearby - in the event of a dispute, possession is lost by the team who dropped the ring.
4. Players cannot score from their own half, or from within the marked area around the ringcatcher - the ring must be thrown - not placed on the stick.
5. Opposing players may enter the D to try and block shots - but cannot touch the stick or otherwise impede the ringcatcher
6. The ringcatcher can only catch the ring with the stick. He may move around to do so but must not step off the chair.
7. Play is restarted from a throw-in after each catch.
