Instructions

During the Siege of Mafeking, Young Boys were used as Runners while the men of the town defended the walls. Divide each Patrol into 2 and separate to each side of the hall. One Scout is then given a verbal message to pass on. On the word go the Scout rushes across the hall to the next Scout and passes the message to the first Scout. They can only tell that Scout. That Scout then runs back across to the next Scout, the Scout who has given the message must not tell anyone else. The message is then relayed back and forth between the Patrol till the last Scout. The last one in the Patrol to receive the message then runs to the Scout Leader and reports the message. If they forget the message they have to back to the last Scout and find out what it was. First team to get the message to the leader and correctly wins.

You can do this multiple times with different variations
Siege wears on- Add chairs to simulate shell holes Scouts must zig zag through with the message
Artillery!- The leader shouts "DOWN" and all messengers running must get down to the ground and stay still to avoid incoming fire. They can not get up till the all clear is called. Any scout too slow is considered hit and must go back to their starting point before running again
No Cover- There is little cover left from the shelling, Scouts must crawl to and back with the message to avoid being hit
Where is the Leader?- The leaders move away somewhere else and the last messenger has to find the Leader before the others do!

Add different rules to keep the game interesting and challenging for the age group
