Fighting Cockrells

Description

“Kokoška” (roughly translated as “Fighting Cockerels”) is a very popular game with Serbian Scouts. The players are divided into roughly equal teams of 5 to 8 so this is a great game to play in sixes, Patrols or similar groupings.
Two teams play the game at any one time

Resources

A grid is drawn on the floor as shown below – each square should be approx 1m wide and 1m deep but it doesn’t matter if the squares turn into rectangles (no deeper than 1.5m though). The number of rectangles should match the maximum number of players on a team [in the example below, that is 6]

Instructions

The two teams line up with one person in each square (if there are uneven numbers, feel free to borrow an extra player from another team) and face their opponent. The Leader then says “Hop” and all players must then fold their arms and hop on one leg.

The Leader then says “fight” and the players must try to get the person directly opposite them to either:
• Move outside their square,
• Open their arms,
• Have any part of their body other than the leg they are hopping on touch the ground or
• Change the leg they are hopping on

It is a good idea to get some of the other teams to watch the players to judge if they move outside their square etc.

Whichever player first does one of the above, they have to sit down in their square and the “winner” stands on two legs. When all the bouts have finished, the team with the most people standing are declared the winners (or for a tournament each person standing scores 1 for their team).
