Aim of Badge: To provide an insight and awareness into people living with disabilities.

This Badge has 6 options of which 6 must be completed

Non-Verbal Communication

Introduction
• Divide the Unit into two groups
• One group are blindfolded
• Second group are not allowed to speak
• They are entrusted to find out the month everyone was born and then put themselves in chronological order.

Instructions
1. Ask all the girls to stand in a straight line.
2. Number them 1, 2 and so on until all girls have a number.
3. Explain for this activity group one is blind and hand them a blindfold each. (or use their neckerchief) Ask them to put them on.
4. Group two are unable to speak.
5. Explain that they need to find out the month that each of them was born and put themselves in chronological order e.g. January, February, March and so on until December.
6. Explain that they must find ways of communicating that are suitable for both groups (e.g. touch). Don’t go into too much detail as they need to be able to work this out for themselves.
7. Stand back and allow them to work together to organise themselves in the correct order.
8. When they have completed the task ask each Guide to say the month they were born in and see how they got on.
