Suitable Building
Introduction:
Go on a walk around the Brownie meeting place to see is it suitable for people with a physical disability.

Instructions
1. In a circle remind the children of what a physical disability means.
2. Discuss what things are put into buildings to make them more suitable for people with physical disabilities, for example ramps, automatic doors, handrails, and disabled toilets, and what things can make life challenging for people with a physical disability, for example steps and narrow doorways.
3. Tell the Brownies that they have a special job to help figure out what things are in their meeting place that might make life easier for people with a physical disability and what things might make things harder.
4. Go for a walk around the meeting place with the Brownies.
5. After coming back into the hall, in their Sixes, ask them to sketch a rough floorplan of the meeting place.
6. Then ask them to colour anything in green that they think makes their building suitable for people with a physical disability (ramps, disabled toilets etc.) and anything that makes life hard for people in red (steps, narrow doorways etc.).
