Wood Screw Relay
Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK
Description
Getting to know screw head types, which is the right driver for it, and how it goes into different types of wood.
You can also start with a short 3 minute blurb on the different types of wood, soft/hard, pressure treated, plywood, mdf.
Best way is to start the meeting with that, and put a sample of each in a bucket of water for review at the end of the meeting.
If you really want to get serious, weigh them ahead of time and mark them... and then weigh at the end!
(mdf will have disintegrated, softwood will have gained weight, plywood may split open, hardwood will be better off, pressure treated shouldn't gain much at all)
Resources
multiple types of wood screws, screwdrivers, and a selection of wood.
Instructions
Each six lines up at one end of the room, or in their lairs.
Placed on two tables, and/or in two different areas, are a pile of screws, and a pile of screwdrivers.
Each six is given several pieces of wood, of differing types.
The goal is to screw in successfully (at least three turns) as many screws as they can. A leader shouldn't be able to tug a screw out of the wood with their fingers.
After each screw goes in, return the screwdriver to the table, while the next Cub runs to get the next screw, and finds correct driver... etc.
If you are short on drivers, they may have to go back for a different type of screw head.
If you want to be mean, put in a screw head that there isn't a driver for...
Review at the end, the logic of which was harder, softer, easier, ... and which is likely to be stronger.
