Grid-based game that covers Digital Maker 1 part 3 (2018) - Instructions
Team write their instructions down before the game is played and must get across a five by five grid without encountering another team
Resources
paper, pens, something to mark out the grid
if indoors (and you can)then chalk will do
outdoors you can use pegs and tie rope between them
Instructions
Mark out a 5 x 5 square grid using chalk,tape or poles (indoors) or pegs with rope (outdoors) and mark N,S,E & W on the relevant sides
Split the group into teams
Give each team a piece of paper and a pen and place them on different sides of the grid
Mark an X in the middle square of each side
The teams get 2 minutes to write out their path using only "N", "E", "S","W" & "P". The idea is to get one player from the X on their side of the grid to the opposite side of the grid (should be minimum of 5 moves) BUT you cannot occupy the same square as another player. Teams may not write down two Ps following each other.
After 2 minutes have one player from each team stand on the respective X and give them their team's path written down
Say "move" - each player makes their first move according to direction on the path the team wrote down. P = pause and the player waits for one move
Say "move" - each player takes the next step (or pauses if their team wrote P)
and so on
If a player occupies the same square as another team, both teams are out
If a team gets to the other side they win.
Teams may not change their instructions during the game
Players on the grid must not change from what is written down
If nobody wins, give the teams 1 minute to revise their path and start again
So if team A starts on the East side and writes down W,P,W,N,N,W,W,W their player will move west then pause, then west, north, north, west, west,west
