DRsABC for Cubs
Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK
Description
Introduction to the DRsABC approach for Cubs (Danger / Response / Send for Help / Airway / Breathing / CPR). Cubs are not expected to be competent first aid responders but the first 3 stages (D, R, S) are achievable for children. Many will enjoy trying CPR compressions on a manikin (especially with music) and will appreciate how hard it really is to do.
Tailor your activity to the age and stage of your Pack.
Resources
Presentation (PDF attached) plus CPR manikin, tissues and appropriate sanitising wipes.
Phones to role play dialling 111.
Optional: Mobile phone with Spotify and a bluetooth speaker.
Instructions
Talk Cubs through the presentation, taking time to practice each stage. Encourage role play.
When older Cubs are practicing CPR on the manikins, younger Cubs can watch while dancing along to Stayin Alive by the Bee Gees.
If appropriate you can let the Cubs try CPR Breathing - otherwise the Leader can simply demonstrate it, this is usually enough for Cubs.
