Description

Mexican Day of the Dead celebrations use paper picador to decorate their shrines to their ancestors.

These papel picado are essentially folded tissue paper with little bits cut out, so that when you open them up, they have a cut out pattern on them. They are then strung up on string to decorate.

Instructions

Take a rectangle shaped bit of tissue paper (about A5 size, but size is not important). Fold it in half, and in half again and again if the thickness of the paper allows.

Take the scissors and cut little shapes out of the it along the fold. If desired, eg to make a flower, the paper can be folded in new directions and new cuts made. Each cut will have a mirror image cut as it is cut along a folded line.
