Description

Take part in a game or activity using eight compass points (Beanbags)

Resources

1 beanbag per eight Brownies
1 compass per eight Brownies

Instructions

Introduction
To teach the Brownies about the importance of knowing the different points on a compass. As a whole Unit show the Brownies a compass and ask them all to look at the eight different points. Explain to them that a compass can help you when you are outside or travelling somewhere and you’re not sure which direction to go. Show the Brownies how to read the eight compass points.

Instructions
1. Divide the Brownies into teams of eight, giving each team a beanbag and a compass.
2. Assign each girl a direction from the following: north, south, east, west, north west, north east, south west and south east.
3. The Brownie who was assigned north is to find north on her compass and throw her beanbag as far north as she can.
4. All of her team then run to get the beanbag. The first Brownie to reach the beanbag from the team then takes the compass and finds her assigned direction on the compass and then throws the beanbag in that direction. For example, if the Brownie who reaches the beanbag first was assigned west, she finds west on the compass and throws the beanbag in a westerly direction. The game continues to allow all of the Brownies to get a chance to use the compass.
