To explore different religious faiths from around the world.
This badge has 5 options of which 5 must be completed.
Instructions
Ask the Guides to sit in a circle and explain that a Guides’ Own is a special ceremony that is used to close camp or an event. It is a celebration of friendship, singing and reflection on time in each other’s company. A Guides’ Own is usually made up of four parts:
• the opening song
• readings
• reflection
• the closing song
The Guides’ Own can be planned around a theme e.g. water, conservation, friendship, honesty. We also usually focus on one part of our Promise. Perhaps add some creative content such as drama, music and a visual focus.
Example of a Guides’ Own with the theme of friendship:
• opening song – ‘Make New Friends’
• poem or reflection about friendship (see overleaf)
• break into groups and try a human knot or exchange friendship bracelets made at an earlier meeting
• read a story about friendship (see overleaf)
• closing song – ‘Linger’
