Home made fire starter using cotton wool and petroleum jelly (Vaseline)


Resources

Petroleum jelly
Cotton wool balls
Zip lock bag or container
Plastic drinking straws (optional)

Instructions

Note, the activity is messy so best to prepare an area to work in and protect clothing as required.

Take a cotton ball and scoop the petroleum jelly onto the ball, ensuring it is covered.
Place the covered ball into a saleable container and repeat until you run out of cotton balls or petroleum jelly

The fire starter are less susceptible to damp, can be lit with a flint and steel will burn for about 10 minutes.
Alternatively push the jelly covered cotton into plastic drinking straws and heat seal each end to create a waterproof fire lighter.
