Description
Advice for pitching a tent with Scouts who have Autism
Resources
4 man Tent.
Related alternative activities to break up the pitching activity.
Visual (picture) or Written checklist of steps to put up a tent.
Instructions
Please consider the various abilities of those with Autism as the Spectrum is so broad.
With the Scouts start the activity.
If your Scout with Autism appears to be getting frustrated and maybe having a sensory overload break off and do an alternative activity explaining that they have all evening to complete it and they can do a little bit at a time.
For some scouts with autism, it may be helpful to break instructions down into small 'chunks' or sections. For other Scouts with Autism a written or visual (picture) checklist of instructions may be helpful if you can provide it.
Do this as and when required in the hope to complete by the end of the meeting.
