Resources

Scrap paper
Pens or pencils

Take it further
This activity could be easily linked with the Cubs Personal Challenge Awards by getting young people to talk about a skill or activity they may want to improve or start.

Instructions

Prepare your pairs
Write down the names of well-known pairs on separate pieces of paper or card.
[Famous pairs include Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, Salt and Pepper, Fish and Chips, Bread and Butter and King and Queen.]

Find your other half
1. Give one half of a popular pair to each player.
2. Each player should find the other half of their pair. Players should move around the room. When the person leading the game makes a signal, everyone should try to find out who or what people are by asking questions that can be answered with a yes or a no. For example, they could ask: are you a person? Are you food? Do you find me in nature?
3. Once a player finds the other half of their pair, they should sit down together at the edge of the space. [Keep an eye on the game to make sure everyone has someone to ask – you might need to help make sure no one is left out.]

Talk to your other half
Once everyone is paired up and sat down, pairs should ask each other questions to find out more about each other:
- What do we have in common that we are both good at?
- What special skill do you have that the other person doesn’t? Discuss one skill each.
Once everyone has finished, everyone should get back together and chat about how it went. What did they do to be a good team player and help their team? Can they think of other types of teams and the roles in them?

Change the level of challenge
You can make the game more challenging by not revealing to each player who they are and taping their pair card onto their backs. Players must then guess who/what they are before they can work out who they are paired with.
