Description

Make mud prints.

Resources

 leaves/bark/sticks in different shapes and sizes
 dirt or mud
 water
 paper/card
 wide bowl, for mixing/holding mud

Instructions

Introduction
Making mud prints with hands, fingers, feet, leaves, bark etc. can be lots of fun. If you are not lucky enough to have access to dirt/mud which is not contaminated, e.g. by animals, you can use brown washable paint (poster paint) mixed with a little play-sand as a substitute.
Note: Potting mix is not suitable for this activity as it may contain potentially harmful bacteria.

Instructions
When setting up the activity, it’s important to make sure your mud is just the right consistency. Thicker mud makes darker shapes when compared to a more watery consistency.
Ladybirds can mix the mud/paint and sand themselves and experiment with some test prints to find the consistency they like best. Throughout the process they will be fine tuning their observational skills, which is a bonus. When the mud is deemed to be at the correct consistency, let the creations begin. Enjoy!
