Lesson plans:

The Young People's Trust for the Environment (YPTE) is really excited to launch a new suite of lesson plans on the topic of climate ce, for use by teachers at Key Stage 2.

The suite includes a set of lessons and presentations covering the following topics:
• What is climate change?
• What impacts is climate change having around the world?
• How are humans causing climate change?
• What can we all do to stop climate change?

The lesson plan suite also includes detailed instructions for a simple, but highly effective and engaging experiment that can be carried out using simple equipment in the classroom to show how increasing levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are contributing to rising global temperatures. Also included is a spreadsheet that students can populate with their own data from the experiment and visualise on a graph.

Teachers can download the lesson plans and experiment instructions for free here: http://ypte.org.uk/lesson-plans/climate-change
Tackling climate change is probably the biggest issue today's young people will be faced with, so learning what it is, why it is happening and how they can help to reduce its impacts are all really important. We believe that young people should be learning about it before they reach Key Stage 3 and that is why we have taken the decision to release this lesson plan suite and experiment now.
Teachers can access all of YPTE's free-to-download lesson plan suites on environmental topics by clicking here. Lesson plan suites usually contain 4 to 6 separate lessons and are accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation filled with high-quality images to inspire discussion and promote learning, together with suggestions for activities and further investigation. Our lesson plans have been repeatedly recommended by the Department for Education and over 153,000 have been downloaded by teachers already.
Along with our lesson plans, YPTE's website (ypte.org.uk) is filled with factsheets, news articles, video clips and publications, all written for young people and schools.
