Instructions
Following the discussions on what medicine is (see activity on OGM: Interest Badge Ladybird Medicine Safety Option 1 (what is medicine)), the associated risks and ways to keep it safe, ask the Ladybirds to think of rules that are necessary for medicine and listen to their suggestions. The rules should resemble the following:
Safety rules for medicine:
• Medicines are not sweets.
• Always tell a parent or adult if you are not feeling well. You won’t always need medicine to make you better. For example, if you have been doing a lot of running around, you might be feeling very hot. You might just need a drink of water to cool you down.
• You should never take medicine that is not given to you by your parent or an adult whom your parent has given permission to.
• The cap should be put back on a medicine bottle after the medicine has been taken.
• Always tell a parent or an adult if you feel unwell after taking medicine.
• Always tell a parent or an adult if other children are playing with or taking medicines.
• All medicine should be kept up high and out of the sight of children.
• Medicines should usually be kept in a cool place.
• Any medicine that needs to be kept cold should be kept up on a high shelf in the fridge.
• Any leftover medicine should be returned to the chemist by parents or adults.
