Sock Bunnies

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

This craft activity uses up old unmatched socks and requires no sewing.

A great Easter craft that can be used to decorate or given as gifts.

Suggested for a 10 year old + guide unit as it may be too fiddly for younger girls.

Ask girls to have their supplies ready before the Virtual meeting.

Please note the alternative options for people that don't have some of the items.

Suitable for GGNZ Virtual Unit

Resources

Per girl:

- 1 odd sock (long, not an ankle sock)
- 1 cup of uncooked rice/ dried beans/ lentils/ soup mix/ wheat etc. or gravel/pebbles
- 3 Rubber bands (or string/wool if no rubber bands)
- Vivid/ Sharpie
- Thin ribbon (optional if you have it)
- Scissors
- 1 large drinking glass (just used for holding things and will be returned)

Instructions

Suggested for a 10 year old + guide unit as it may be too fiddly for younger girls.

Ask girls to have these supplies ready before the meeting. Please note the alternative options for people that don't have some of the items.

1. Take the sock and place it in a tall glass with the top rolled over the rim so its easier to pour the rice into.

2. Pour the rice (or whatever else you are using) into the sock.

3. Use the rubber band to tie the top of the sock closed.

4. Use another rubber band tied 1/3 of the way down to make a head and a body.

5. Use another rubber band to separate a small section off the body to make a bunny tail.

6. To make the ears, use a vivid to draw two ear shapes on the excess sock and cut around them. If you want floppy ears, leave them a bit longer.

7. Use the vivid to draw the eyes (two dots) and nose (a small cross)

8. (Optional). Cut a long enough piece of ribbon and tie a bow around the bunnies neck.

Other ideas:

- To make smaller or bigger bunnies, change the amount of rice used
- To make sock bunny’s out of black socks, use a white fabric paint
- Make different types of bunnies. Some with floppy ears that don’t stick up, some with shorter ears, some with longer ears that stick up.Use different colors of socks or even patterned socks.
- Use kids or baby socks to make small bunnies
- Glue on googly eyes for the eyes and a small pom pom for nose, with pipe cleaner whiskers.
