2020 Compulsory Activity:
1. Find out why people wear red poppies on ANZAC Day? Make your own poppy to display at your house, this could be outside, inside or in your window. With your household bubble, play the Last Post, hold a minutes silence and read the Ode of Remembrance
Choose four other activities to complete:
2. What, when and why do we celebrate ANZAC? What do the letters ANZAC stand for? Choose a creative way to share your knowledge with your family, leader or unit
3. Make ANZAC biscuits – either bake a batch or make an individual ANZAC biscuit
4. Make a small wreath with your family to display in your front window or on your door or inside your house
5. Read a poem or story that relates to ANZAC Day, or read a story about someone who was in a war. Discuss what you thought about it with your family
6. Make a Peace Dove with a message of peace. Find a special place to hang it
7. Explore the National Army Museum website. You could read someone’s story on the ‘Voices of the Past’ page, or have a look at some photos on the ‘Recollect’ page
https://www.armymuseum.co.nz/explore/
8. In New Zealand, food items such as butter, sugar, tea and meat were rationed to allow enough supplies to be sent overseas to feed the soldiers. Pick a wartime recipe to try with your family
9. Listen to some wartime music – what do you think of it? Is it different to the music you like to listen to? Can you dance to it?
10. Find your local memorial on the map link. What photos or information do you find?
